The Dice Game

This game of pure chance draws great inspiration from the amazing book The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart, and is primarily used to randomly determine who must perform some unpleasant task (e.g. chores). It's best played by two players but can accommodate more if necessary.

The rules are simple: players select a die (there is some voodoo involved in selecting the die that appears "luckiest"), and roll to determine turn order. Whoever rolls highest starts; ties are broken by more rolls. Once the turn order has been established, players take turns saying a number and rolling the die, hoping that the number they have spoken will appear. If it does, they win immediately. We typically honour the number 4 for some reason, and feel we are betraying it if other numbers are picked. To speed up the game, a player can (on their turn) announce "Sudden death", followed by either "even" or "odd", and then roll the die. If it displays the type of number (even/odd) that they announced, they win immediately, otherwise they obviously lose.

For ways in which the Dice Game has led to us eating horrible things (e.g. sunscreen), see this post.
